Mission: Upgrade Derek's Job - Complete

Yahoo!!! Derek is finally moving on from his back breaking job!
By November, we will be moving an hour away so he can work for my dad who owns a tire store.

He will be a manager in training.

While it is a temporary pay cut, he has potential to own the company in the end.

Pray for us as we make the scary, but exciting, transition!

Mission: Upgrade Derek's Job!

Well, as you all know, my sweet husband is in the grueling line of concrete work.

Unfortunately, his already hurt back pays for this job dearly every day. The good news is that there is a silver lining! My dad is in the process of purchasing a tire & repair shop and plans on bringing Derek in as a manager! This means a pay raise, less strenuous labor, and no rain outs [hallelujah!]

It's still in the settlement process, but we have been praying hard about this and as long as something drastic doesn't happen, it's going to come through and we will be moving towards our dream of a bigger home!

I will keep you all updated as it moves along!
Pray that it all works out!

DIY Thursday : Chalkboard Fridge

So this week, I decided to take a note from Pinterest and turn my fridge into a big chalkboard! I loved the idea of having a central location to write down everything like chores, dinner ideas, and little messages! It turned out really awesome and it works too! I am loving it so far and it's only the first day. The only downside is the chalk dust that gets on the floor when you erase but nothing a little broom won't fix!

Anyways, I bought Rustoleum Chalkboard Paint, a foam paint roller, a paint edger, a paint tray,
and painters tape. It all added up to $30, which for an entire fridge makeover isn't bad!

The DIY is fairly simply. I had to sand the entire front of my fridge, then clean it. I put on two coats of the paint, leaving four hours in between each coat. The directions then indicate to allow three days to cure the paint before writing on it. I mean, if you follow the directions on the can, you really can't go wrong!

The end result is an AWESOME chalkboard fridge! I am in love with it!

Anyways, that's today's DIY!

Starting from the bottom...

Oh the joys of being a newlywed!
Make that 20 year old and 21 year old newlyweds!

But I guess I'm getting ahead of myself.
My name is Emily Bryant and I am a newlywed of nearly a year.

I love my husband, Derek, with all of my heart, however, being a newlywed can be very difficult financially, especially at our very young age. Currently, I am a college student and he is a concrete worker.

I am making this blog not only for myself to keep up with our progress, but to encourage other young newlyweds or any young person who is in our shoes of trying to start up our own lives and homes.

Currently, we live in a VERY small trailer (1 bed, 1 bath, kitchen/living room combo). I came from a 2000 sq foot home to this trailer and it has been difficult, I'm not going to lie. I have accumulated a LOT of things during my 20 years at home at when you go from plenty of room to absolutely no room at all, it tends to drive you a tad bit crazy! But I'm with my sweet husband so it makes it better.

Our goal by 2015 is to have a bigger home and a better job!
This is the start to the journey of moving on up in this big ole world with our little ole family!
